It's been 10 years since we have seen Rockport School on our islands, but they are back with a large group made up of 77 students and 9 staff. They are travelling with a lot of athletes and taking part in many sport events and matches in netball, rugby, hockey, tennis, golf and also football.
The first day saw them travelling over from 11pm the previous day to make it to the islands at 10:40am. Still they arrived in hugh spirit and immediately joined in a netball event hosted by Sundreams Travel in a local school.
On the following days Rockport students got involved in many other sports and played rugby against Kavallieri RFC, matched up against local tennis players at the Marsa Sports Club, played golf at the Royal Malta Golf Club, played football against local teams and netball against NRG. Most match ups were pretty even and a great time was had by all. The group also got involved in many cultural activities and visitited Valletta with two of our best guides, Stanley and Eric as well as Comino Island and the Blue Lagoon.
It takes a lot of work to put such trips together but when you see all the kids enjoying themselves, playing the sport they love while meeting new people, it makes it all worthwhile.
Sports is a great way to exchange cultures and get people to mix and play against different abilities. There are some great athletes within the group and it is an honour for us to be able to host such athletes with a very bright future in sports.
We have to give a special mention to Gail and all her staff, who's effort and attitude has been amazing. The students at Rockport are very lucky to have such great teachers to guide them and teach them the skills required.
Yesterday they had another great day with many sport activities and also finishing off with a Traditional Maltese Dinner and Karaoke. The tour goes on today with the last Golf rounds and tennis match ups at Marsa, as well as Netball fixtures against Mellieha and football in Qormi.
