About this activity

Half day tour of Malta’s Old Capital City :  MDINA

Time began for Mdina about 3800 years ago. Mdina truly reflects on its various occupants’, or conquerors’, influences over this time to the present. Different people : Phoenicians,  Romans, Byzantines, Arabians, to the Norman Christians, French and British. It is believed to have been the area in which the Apostle Paul lived after being shipwrecked here. The Half day Mdina Tour will provide you with an insight to what was once the capital of the island but relinquished the title in 1530. Ancient noble Maltese families still reside here as some of the few hundred permanent residents.

Guided Tour

Our guided tour will take you around the winding little streets. Starting from the gate and moving along inside to meet the three saints, protector of the city. Walk past the most notable sites including Vilhena Palace, St. Agatha’s Chapel, the Banca Giuratale, the Mdina Cathedral. We will then reach the other  side of the city, to enjoy a panoramic view over the Maltese island.  After some free time to wander around the sinuous street, we will take the transport to go to St Anton Garden, passing by Dingli cliffs for a spectacular views of the sea,  stretches of countryside beneath the cliffs with terraced fields, garrigue and rubble walls.  Finally, at  our last stop, to enjoy a gorgeous display of mediterranean and tropical plants in the gardens built in the 17th Century, now hosting the presidential residence.

An optional Treasure Hunt in Mdina can be organized at no additional charge.

Mdina history

Walk the streets of this medieval town today known as the ‘silent city’ whilst your guide unravels its rich history. Be shown its secretive narrow winding streets to discover its dwarfed doorways, till you reach the city’s bastions from where a stunning almost 360 degrees panoramic view of the island can be seen. The tour continues with a visit to the Dingli cliffs, known as the highest cliffs on the island. From here you can look out to the island of Filfla. Our final stop will be to the botanic gardens of San Anton, these originally being walled gardens for a palace which once served as a leisure residence for the Grand Master. A truly relaxing half day excursion in and around the past capital of Malta.
